LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - With an unusual summer coming to an end, health officials said allergy sufferers may be reaching for their medication or seeing their doctor more often this fall.
More patients than usual have visited their physician with symptoms like coughing, sneezing and itchy eyes.
Health officials said because of the unseasonably warm winter and hot, dry summer this year, allergy sufferers never really got a break.
"The biggest thing is to just stay hydrated. The more clear fluids, our favorite is water, the clear and more hydrated somebody can stay, the secretions in their sinuses become thinner," registered nurse Scott Wood said.
Health officials said allergy sufferers will likely experience symptoms from pollen and mold until a major drop in temperatures and a good frost.
