FAFSA Day at McCutcheon

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County students and parents looking to complete the FAFSA form were given a bit of help Monday.

The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette has organized "FAFSA Days," the first of which was held at McCutcheon.

With help from staff at the National Center for College Costs, students and their parents were able to get help completing the form, which is necessary in order to receive federal grants and loans.

"We have the National Center for College Costs here to help any parent that needs any sort of instruction on getting FAFSA filed or if they have any questions about it.  It's a really great opportunity for our first-time filers to get some help that they need," said Stephanie Rodgers, a guidance counselor at McCutcheon.

Stephanie Rodgers said the form can be intimidating for some.

"It's not necessarily difficult.  Sometimes, it is intimidating.  People see that they have to have all of their tax information prepared so they think 'Oh, I may not be ready to file for the FAFSA just yet.'  Just hearing it, they kind of freak out," said Rodgers.

More FAFSA days are scheduled around the county.

Lafayette Jefferson High School students and parents can receive help on February 11.

West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School will have a FAFSA Day on February 12.

The final FAFSA Day is scheduled for February 28 at Harrison High School.
