Fishing for compliments on Facebook

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -
A West Lafayette resident is doing her best to brighten the day of her community members, all while remaining anonymous.

That's why one West Lafayette high school student is fishing for compliments, but not for herself.

"It's really, really nice when people see a compliment about themselves and they're like, 'Aw, this made my day,'" the anonymous girl said. "It's just really nice."

She created a Facebook page titled "West Side Compliments."

The page is solely for the purpose of messaging anonymous compliments which will then be posted for everyone to see.

"Dec. 1 was when I received the first compliment from someone else and we've had hundreds since then," she said.

The compliments get posted, and if a friend of someone being complimented sees the post, he or she can tag that person so they see somebody has something nice to say about them.

Here are a few examples pulled from the site:

"Kudos to you, Carter. It takes a huge person to do what you do and people admire you for it. Someone has tagged him in this post, so he has seen this.'

"Arpitha Gadag is so much fun to be around and a great friend."

The creator of the page hopes this tradition grows and carries on for years to come.

"I think I want to take it over through the rest of the year," she said. "Hopefully it will continue for years to come. I definitely would like to get someone to take it over. What I'm hoping is that people will see that things like Facebook and Twitter can be used for good and hopefully they'll continue to do that."
