MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - An area elementary school student has been suspended for bringing a weapon to school.

A letter from the principal of Woodlawn Elementary School, part of the Twin Lakes  School Corporation in White County, has been posted to the corporation's website.

According to the statement, a student brought an unloaded weapon to school Tuesday and was reportedly showing it to other students.

Principal Gloria Kinnard said the student never used the weapon in a threatening manner.

The incident was reported to the Monticello Police Department.

The student was suspended.

Kinnard says no other details can be released.

Messages left Thursday evening with the school corporation have not been returned.
