LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A woman who wanted to donate some money to the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette got much more than she asked for. Now, she has an entire education center named after her.
The Manya Fan Education Center officially opened on Saturday at the art museum.
It's named after Manya Fan, a woman who was involved with the museum until her death two years ago.
The center has an upgraded ceramics studio, a new sculpting and sketching studio, and the capacity to bring in 30 percent more students.
The center was made possible by donations from Fan's four children. Fan's son Hung Fan said an education center is a perfect way to remember his mother.
"Mom's entry into the art and into the art museum was really through education, by taking classes," said Hung. "This is a terrific way for her spirit to live on in the museum."
Not only is it exciting for Fan's family, but the museum as well. Museum staff members said this is the first renovation to the building since 1961.
