LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - As many of you know, Friday (Dec. 21, 2012) is the end of the Mayan calendar. This leads some to believe Friday is the end of the world. The owner of a Lafayette restaurant is preparing his customers with food.

Don Kirby, owner of DT Kirby's in downtown Lafayette, unveiled his "End of the World" burger just in time for for the so-called apocalypse.

The sandwich consists of two bacon-stuffed hamburger patties topped with pastrami, onion rings, melted cheese, hot sauce and, of course, lettuce and tomato. Kirby said if you are going to have one last meal it might as well be something special.

"We always try to think of something new we like to do anyway. The end of the world seems like you have to have something you wouldn't probably do except for once or twice in your life. It's not like you're going to walk in her on a Tuesday and say, 'I want an End-of-the-World burger. This is a one-day type of event. That's it, period," said Kirby.

The "End of the World" burger will be on the menu for only one day. The cost?  $12.21, of course.

As Don Kirby served up burgers News 18 talked to a couple patrons about why some people believe Friday could be the end.

"Probably they think there is some bigger plan than us. It helps the world make a lot more sense if it is going to end at some point in time. Whereas it just keeps going forever," said Louis Hickman of Lafayette.

"Just because it's fun. It's something to talk about and it may make sense to some people," said Becky Lewark of Illinois.
