WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Dry conditions may be to blame for a car crushed by a tree Monday evening in West Lafayette.

It happened around 7:00 p.m. at Happy Hollow Park. One witness told NewsChannel 18 that she and her friends were sitting under one of the shelters when she heard roaring and cracking sounds. She said it happened so fast, no one was sure what it was until they saw the tree collapse on the SUV.

While it's uncertain what caused it, some speculated it was the recent weather.

"They said dryness and erosion, that's what they thought, because there wasn't any storm or anything or any lightning. So, that made me think I have to go check my tree in my back yard. Probably should be a warning for people because it was just so fast," said Anne Henck.

West Lafayette Police said nobody was injured.
