Disc golf course gets 18 holes

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Saturday might not have been a great day for a game of golf, but what about a game of disc golf?

Nearly 60 disc golfers were competing in the first disc golf tournament at the newly updated Murdock Park in Lafayette.

The park originally only had an eight-hole course for disc golf, but the Wabash Disc Golf Club of Tippecanoe County and the city of Lafayette teamed up to expand that course to 18 holes.

Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski said expanding the park is a big perk for the city, and club president Jeremy Johns said he's excited to see so many people participating in the first tournament.

"I'm really excited," said Johns. "I've been playing here at Murdock park for probably about 12 years now and this is the most people we've ever had at a single tournament here."

"It gets the park more use, brings more attention to the park, and by expanding the course across Cason Street, that part of the park really doesn't get used a lot," said Roswarski. "I think it's going to open up a lot of new opportunities, bring more people to the park and having a partner that's willing to invest time and money into enhancing the park is important to the city."

The disc golf club helped fund the new additions to the park. Roswarski said the city has also made other changes to the park, including planting 100 new trees.
