DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) - Delphi School Corporation held a news conference Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. regarding the incident of sexual hazing alleged to have taken place at Delphi High School.
The news conference was led by Superintendent Ralph Walker. Walker stated that the Delphi Community School Corporation had conducted an investigation in conjunction with the Delphi police department.
"The alleged incident caused concern and an investigation into the matter by the principal and the athletic director was conducted, along with a comprehensive and concurrent investigation by the City of Delphi Police Department. We want to thank the Delphi P.D. for the many hours they have devoted to this investigation," said Walker.
Chief of Delphi police John Chapman said the police investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
"Right now we are still investigating the incident. We have one more interview to accomplish. After that the investigation will be turned over to probate and prosecutors. That's just part of routine procedure that we follow," said Chief Chapman.
The incident in question was brought forward by a parent of a freshman football player at Delphi High School. Walker stated that an investigation continued from there.
Walker said the school found no evidence of the sexual hazing alleged by a student football player earlier this month.
"The school's investigation revealed this was an 'attempted wedgie' on a student football player by a couple of football players. There was no evidence of any sexual intent or sexual behavior whatsoever," said Walker.
Walker said the school corporation will not reveal the disciplinary action that would be taken against the boys involved.
Walker did not specify if the football team members involved would be disciplined.
