LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The 20th annual "Dancing in the Streets" is scheduled for Saturday, July 16, 2011 from 4 p.m. until midnight. Organizers began building the excitement Thursday morning with a news conference on the Pedestrian Bridge.

This year's theme is "Let It Be," honoring rock legends. The sounds of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Heart will fill the streets along with great food and fun for the kids.

Should severe weather strike again this year like in 2010, committee chairman Doug Anderson said a plan is in place to let you know if you need to take cover. Anderson told NewsChannel 18 vendors will be notified and the public address system will be used to warn those in attendance if and when they need to take cover. He added severe weather affecting the event is unlikely this year but the committee plans to watch for anything that may take aim on downtown Lafayette and West Lafayette.

You can purchase advance tickets to "Dancing in the Streets" on the event's website . Tickets are $5 in advance for adults, $1 for children ages 5 to 12. A complete schedule and more details on this year's entertainment lineup are also listed on the website.

WLFI will be broadcasting a special, live, one-hour show from "Dancing in the Streets" on Saturday, July 16 from 6 to 7 p.m.
