LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An eyesore in the Lafayette community will finally be cleaned up.
What remains of Cox's Pub has been demolished and is in the process of being cleaned up.
Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski says the original owner was involved in an insurance dispute and the city placed a demolition order on the property.
Lafayette Savings Bank, who owned the mortgage, bought the property at a sheriff's auction in early February. The bank now plans to sell the property when cleanup is completed.
Mayor Roswarski says the bank purchasing the property has saved the city some cash.
"Fortunately for the city and being the wonderful community partner that Lafayette Savings Bank is, they went ahead and proceeded with the demolition for us and are paying for the demolition for us to get the building down," said Roswarski.
A basement fire destroyed the building in September 2010. Lafayette Fire inspectors determined the fire to be intentional the following May. Initial plans to rebuild never materialized.
