Cornstuble announces challenge to Truitt

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Lafayette city councilman Rick Cornstuble announces his bid to join the statehouse.
Cornstuble made the announcement Wednesday evening in front of about 50 people at Puccini's restaurant.
He is running as a Democrat in House District 26, a seat currently held by Republican Randy Truitt.
Cornstuble is a former teacher and longtime employee of the state teacher's association. He said he wants to give more local control to school districts, bring more good jobs with good benefits to the area, and help Purdue.
"We need to start moving ahead and I think I can do that," Cornstuble said. "I'm confident that I can help this state and help this area move ahead into the 21st century and help Purdue accomplish all that it can accomplish."
Cornstuble lost his bid for re-election to the Lafayette City Council in November to Republican Jerry Reynolds.
Rep. Randy Truitt filed his paperwork seek re-election Wednesday in Indianapolis. He's served in the position since 2008.
