Construction to cause football delays

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue football season kicks-off Saturday and police say with major construction projects still underway, drivers may want to avoid certain roads traveling to and from the game.

"Our major points of issue are on U.S. 52 between Lafayette and West Lafayette," Sgt. Keene Red Elk said.

That's where traffic going eastbound on U.S. 52 turns into one lane. But Purdue police said fans traveling to this weekend's home game should also avoid another area.

"On State Road 25 with the construction near I-65 where they're closing the entrance and exit ramps at various times for 20 day periods to re-surface and re-build those ramps," Sgt. Red Elk said.

It's still unclear whether or not the ramps at State Road 25 and Interstate 65 will be open for this weekend's home game.

"It's a moving breathing project. It changes on a daily basis and definitely a weekly basis," Sgt. Red Elk said.

Police said in order to avoid the headache behind the wheel, steer away from State Road 25 and U.S. 52 altogether.

And remember to bring your football spirit but don't forget to bring some patience for when you're behind the wheel.

"We get you in here and get you out as quick as possible. Be patient with the cars on the road and leave early to get here and don't be in such a big hurry to leave," Sgt. Red Elk said.
