TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - March is the unofficial start to construction season in the Greater Lafayette area and some projects could slow down drivers.

Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski says the major construction project for Lafayette is the widening of Veteran's Memorial Parkway.

Roswarski says it will be four lanes from US 52 to Concord Road.

He says businesses in that area will benefit from the additional lanes.

Nanshan Aluminum Technologies is getting ready to open, a very large facility," Roswarski said.  "Shigeru, the parent company for Heartland Automotive has also built a facility out there and there's been some other developments."

In West Lafayette, Mayor John Dennis says some construction is already underway.

Several different projects through Nortwestern Avenue including new gas lines and the 720 Northwestern Project will slow drivers.

Dennis says other than that project West Lafayette can't take on much more.

"Because of the size and scope of those projects," said Dennis.  "It's going to be very critical that the community is well aware of what roads are going to be open and what detours need to be respected."

Dennis says they will hold a press conference soon to inform drivers the best places to travel.
