GREATER LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Construction season is almost underway, which means drivers need to be aware of construction in Greater Lafayette.
Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski (D) says the big project in Lafayette is the widening of Veterans Memorial Parkway between Sagamore Parkway (U.S. Highway 52) and Concord Road.
Roswarski says the construction will allow for better traffic flow with the increase of businesses in the area.
“We're going to widen that road to four lanes, put in some additional turn lanes, an additional traffic signal, a trail (and) some street lights will run all the way from 52 back to Concord Road,” Roswarski said.
In West Lafayette, Mayor John Dennis (R) says his city’s major project is already underway.
Dennis says there are several projects that are going on through Northwestern Avenue, including new gas lines and the 720 Northwestern Project.
He said other than these projects, the city can't handle much more construction.
“The fact of the matter is, we're very much aware that in a city the size of West Lafayette, if we get too many construction projects going on at the same time, that really creates havoc when it comes to traffic flow,” Dennis said.
Dennis says they plan to hold a press conference soon to alert drivers of the best routes to take during construction season.
