TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - It’s a road opening Greater Lafayette drivers have been waiting anxiously for. Sagamore Parkway’s new westbound pavement will see its first traffic this week.
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) says westbound traffic on Sagamore Parkway, or U.S. 52, will open into the newly constructed lanes by Thursday.
Crews have nearly completed the reconstruction of the road between Schuyler Avenue and the Wabash River Bridge.
Eastbound traffic will stay in one lane until the temporary pavement markings can be removed, and the permanent pavement markings are installed. Drivers should be aware that there will be changes in traffic patterns.
U.S. 52 has been reconstructed from the Wabash River Bridge to just east of Beech Drive, which is north of Greenbush.
The project also included overlay and rehabilitation work to the bridges over the Norfolk Southern and CSX Railroads.
Other improvements as part of the reconstruction included shoulder, curbs and gutters, drainage structures, culvert, guardrail and sign replacement.
