LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - To celebrate Veterans Day Tippecanoe County hosted a special ceremony to observe the occasion.

Many in attendance were veterans themselves. Ceremony events included the playing of Taps and a 21-gun salute.

Veterans from all wars, past and present, were recognized by local veteran organizations.

United States Air Force Colonel Seth Bretscher said while we honor veterans today it's important to honor their families too.

"The families, we need to remember them as well at this time because they are making the same kinds of sacrifices in their own way that our service members that are serving overseas are," Bretscher said.

More than 20 local veteran associations made the observance ceremony possible.
