LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Thanks to an economic revitalization initiative by the Tippecanoe County Council, an Indianapolis-based company is in the process of relocating in Lafayette.
An "Economic Revitalization Area" on Veterans Memorial Parkway near IU-Health Arnett Hospital will allow businesses to enjoy big tax breaks for developing their business on the real estate.
Copper Moon Coffee requested a 10-year, $500,000 tax abatement on the real estate and an $800,000 7-year abatement on manufacturing equipment.
The Tippecanoe County Council said these temporary tax breaks have a history of bringing business to the county.
"It's a great economic development tool to encourage new business to come into the area," Tippecanoe County Council President Roland Winger said. "This one I would call one very typical of those that have been successful for us in the past."
The final vote for approval will take place during the Tippecanoe County Council's Oct. 9 meeting.
The new business is expected to bring 15 jobs to the area.
