LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Many Lafayette firefighters were part of a special presentation about cancer.
California Fireman Lorenzo Abundiz is the founder of Code 3 For a Cure.
He and other firemen and cancer survivors travel to different fire departments across the country, sharing their survivor stories.
Their goal is to bring awareness about early cancer screening for firefighters and other citizens.
Abundiz said firefighters are are exposed to more hazardous materials because of their occupation that could later cause health problems.
"We take those risks thats our job but you know cancer and exposure may not come in a week a month from one exposure it could be years later and years later," said Abundiz.
Abundiz said they are driving across the states on a donated fire engine on a mission of honor and hope.
He said Code 3 for a cure is a non-profit that also makes funds available to fireman and their families that are battling cancer.
