LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -
The Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club gets a big donation thanks to baseball star, and Lafayette native, Clayton Richard.

Richard and his wife Ashley gathered at the Boys and Girls Club to deliver a check worth $40,000. The donation was the result of a fundraiser the couple hosted in November.

The event included a dinner and a live and silent auction for items such as baseball memorabilia.

The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette also donated $10,000 the Boys and Girls Club, bringing a total of $50,000 to the Boys & Girls Club endowment.

"Growing up in the area, the Boys & Girls was a huge part of my father's life, first and foremost.  He kind of taught that to us and we were around here a little bit," Richard said.

"Just being able to come by here every now and then and now that we're in an opportunity to be able to help we're trying to take advantage of that," Richard added.

Richard is a graduate of McCutcheon High School and is preparing for his fifth season in the major leagues.

He and his wife plan on making the fundraiser an annual event.
