Club needs help to save fish

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Sportmen's Club in Crawfordsville needs people to come out and fish after a plan arose to drain a lake on the club's property.

Club President Charlotte Darone says the Department of Natural Resources is forcing the club to drain the lake by 6 feet because the lake's dam is not up to code.

She says this will be harmful for fish.

Darone says fishermen can catch the fish then release them into a natural spring pool.

The fish will be stored there for the winter.

She says the club has seen tremendous support from the community.

"There may be some people that will leave,” Darone said. β€œOn the positive side, there's other people that are now coming from their memories and their childhood, and their 20s, and their past that want to help keep this place alive."

Darone says for $20, you can purchase a temporary membership to the club.

She says it is all part of an effort to save the fish.
