Clinton Prairie fourth grader eager to get back on school bus

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A scary thought ran through Clinton Prairie fourth grader Alyssa Eitnier's mind after her school bus rolled on its side Friday morning.

"I thought we weren't going to get out," Eitnier said. "A high schooler actually told us that we needed to get out, and we needed to do it safely. She said, 'Let's go out the back.'"

Once out of the bus, Eitnier was taken to Saint Vincent Hospital in Frankfort, and treated for a few bruises.

"When my daughter walks out the door to get on the bus I think she is going to be safe," Eitnier's mom, Shelley Martin, said. "She is going to school. She is going to learn. I don't think about anything tragic happening."

Martin said her daughter isn't shaken up by the accident, and is acting like herself. Martin said she is the one with nerves.

Helping to calm those nerves is the Clinton Prairie administration.

Martin said the school called her this weekend to tell her both the principal and the vice principal will ride the bus with the students Monday morning.

"I'm glad they're trying to get all the kids at ease, and making them feel comfortable," Martin said.

It looks like with administrators or not, Eitnier is excited to be back on the bus.

"I like to see my friends and talk," Etnier said.
