CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)- - Clinton County Fair organizers felt lucky with Sunday's mild weather and rain for the start of fair week. The county's fair started Sunday, and by its end date on July 14, organizers expect about 20,000 people to visit the fairgrounds.
"We have a good tradition of having a nice fair," Clinton County Fair Board President, Brad Peas, said. "People like our derby, and the rides are a really nice thing."
During the fair, weather is supposed to cool off, but organizers still have cooling stations set up, and all 4-H shows will be shut down if the heat index goes above 115 degrees. 4-H participants said it has been important to keep their animals cool this summer.
"This summer has been worse than other because of no rain," participant Brooke Bishop said. "We go out every hour to wash and water [the animals]."
The Clinton County Fair has all the traditional rides and fair food. But something special this year is pig wrestling. Everyone can come. It begins Tuesday evening.
Along with the Clinton County Fair, the Cass County Fair also began Sunday. Both fairs end July 14.
