Chinese students visit Edgelea

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Students at Edgelea Elementary have visitors this week from the other side of the world.

Forty students, along with seven staff members from Edgelea's sister school in Hangzhou, China, spent Tuesday paired with a student shadowing them in their learning process.

"I think the kids get an appreciation of cultural diversity," said Edgelea Pricipal Alicia Clevenger. "No matter where you're from, a kid is a kid. I think they start to appreciate the fact that, even though they may speak another language, they do share common interests with each other and I think that's important."

Clevenger has been involved in the program for three years now and has been to China herself.

The program is through the Confucius Institute at Purdue and is in its fifth year.
