Children with special needs gather to play basketball

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Foundation basketball team is a team comprising special needs children of all ages.

The team holds practices every Sunday inside the St. James Church gymnasium, where they learn how to pass, dribble and shoot.

Aside from the practices, the children have games during halftime of various varsity high school basketball games. Parents said opportunities like this are special experiences for their children.

"It's very interesting because it's something that I never expected him to do with his disabilities," said parent Jennifer VonTobel.
    
"Foundations has given Blake the opportunity to enjoy the basketball experience and learn just the basic principles of basketball," said parent Erin Seabolt.
    
"When they make a basket, it's exciting," said Coach Tom Brown. "We're looking for other opportunities to play other teams and to get our kids the experience of playing Hoosier basketball."
