'Chance Program' will start immediately for elementary students

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A new program that will help students with behavioral issues will start immediately in the Lafayette School Corporation.

The school board approved the "Chance Program" at a meeting Monday evening.
    
As NewsChannel 18 first reported last month, children in kindergarten to fourth grade who act out or have behavioral issues could be sent to Miller Elementary for the ten-day program. The program will work with those children on good, positive behavior.

LSC principals worked on creating the program this past summer. Superintendent Les Huddle said the Title 1 funded program will give students the attention and help they need.

"It will be an opportunity for us to do some individual interventions with students who may just not grasp some of the things immediately," said Huddle.

Huddle said students will first meet with their principal and teachers to see if the program is best for them. He said parents will be invited into the classrooms to see how much progress their child is making.
