LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Lafayette Common Council members adopted the proposed land use plan Monday for the Historic Centennial neighborhood, just north of downtown.
The Area Plan Commission approved the land use plan last month.
The plan has no immediate effect on the neighborhood but gives a vision for where the neighborhood should go for the next two to three generations.
"We think this is a great plan," said Mayor Tony Roswarski. "How do we take that neighborhood now to the next level? How do we tie it into the Wabash riverfront development? How do we tie it into the downtown that it borders? This is a good plan, I think this is going to be a good document to help move that neighborhood forward and look to the future."
The Council also passed the final reading of the next phase of the Earl Avenue/Durkees Run sewer project to keep sewage from entering the Wabash River. They also approved the phased in, 30 percent sewage rate hike over the next three years to pay for the $33 million project.
Some good news for taxpayers, the council got better than expected rates to refinance some park district bonds, saving more than $300,000 over the life of the bonds.
The members approved a master trails plan for the city, which includes 64 miles of potential new trails around town.
