AT&T Invests $365 million in first half of 2012

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A big investment by AT&T means better service in Greater Lafayette.

The company announced Monday that it has invested $365 million in the state of Indiana for the first half of 2012.

That money is contributing to new cell sites and expanding the company's 4G LTE service to more places, including Lafayette and West Lafayette.

The investment is a result of a law that was passed in 2006 that was co-authored by State Senator Brandt Hershman.

"It's created over 2,500 jobs," said Hershman.  "It's wired a lot of rural communities to broadband access, who would have not seen it otherwise.  In fact, we now have some of the fastest average internet access speeds in the United States."

Hershman said the hope of this investment by AT&T is that new businesses choose to come to Indiana and create new jobs.
