WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Some students at Purdue are upset about a cartoon that ran in the student run Exponent paper.
The Sex Position of the Week has been running for months in the publication, but many students said the latest cartoon in the series advocates non-consensual sexual situations. They have called for the paper to apologize and correct the situation.
A facebook group as well as an online petition were started, both calling for action against the paper's printing of the illustration.
The cartoon brought mixed reactions from students and parents on Purdue's campus.
"It will get people to read it. Is it appropriate? I don't know, probably not. It's kind of sleezy," said student Kyle Custard.
"Clearly it's meant to be humorous. It's kind of funny, but that's not acceptable in real life," said student Makenzie Morison-Knox.
"I feel it's very offensive to even see a cartoon like that printed in the paper. I just find it very disturbing," said mother Amy Propper.
Editor at the exponent, Zoe Hayes, said it was never the paper's intent to condone non-consensual sexual situations.
The Exponent staff told News Channel 18 they will adress the illustration in Monday's paper. Hayes said she welcomes any constructive critisim from readers on how the paper should handle, and better the situation.
