WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A crash on State Road 43 in White County killed one person Monday afternoon.
According to county Sheriff Pat Shafer, a passenger car and semi collided at 3:10 p.m. on State Road 43 south of Chalmers, near County Road 700 South.
70-year-old David Vyse of Chalmers was driving the passenger car and is dead as a result of the crash.
26-year-old Christopher Hubers, of DeMotte, was driving the semi. Sheriff Shafer said he appeared OK and refused medical treatment.
Our crew on the scene spoke with Sheriff Shafer. He said the passenger car crossed the line of SR 43 for an unknown reason and side-swiped a semi. The driver of that car, Vyse, was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Road 43 was closed for nearly three hours while crews cleared the scene and investigated the crash.
"There's been a large amount of traffic that's been detoured for approximately the last three hours. We've relied on assistance from emergency management to help out with the traffic," Shafer explained.
The crash is being investigated by the White County Sheriff's Office, the White County coroner and Indiana State Police.
Sheriff Shafer said it is unclear at this time if drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
