LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Thousands head to Dancing in the Streets every year. For car lovers like Mark and Wilma Tracy, it's a chance to show off all of their restored classic cars.
The sound of engines revving is music to the ears of car lovers in Lafayette, and Saturday that music will fill the streets of Downtown Lafayette. This year's Dancing in the Streets is just days away, and car collectors are revving their engines and polishing their hubcaps. Mark Tracy said he plans to bring all five of his classic cars to this year's event.
"People come up and they always, having an old car themselves at one time or another, they really enjoy coming and looking at the cars themselves and talking about them," said Mark Tracy.
"It's a chance to see people that we don't see, except at Dancing in the Streets. So it's a fun time for everybody," said Wilma Tracy.
Mark Tracy jokes he was stung by the Mopar bug back in 1968 after just one look at a photo of the 1968 Dodge Charger.
"I was in Vietnam and saw a picture of a '68 Dodge Charger. And I said, 'Boy I got to have one of them when I get home,'" said Mark Tracy.
Mark Tracy's car collection started with a 1968 Charger. Next, he acquired a 1970 Barracuda, which has become a staple at Dancing in the Streets. From there the car collection grew.
"Well it keeps him busy. He needs to have something to do. This has really kept him busy, and he loves it. It's something he loves to do," said Wilma Tracy.
Even though Mark Tracy said he can't choose a favorite from his collection, he's always sure to bring a car that pleases the crowds.
"I believe they like the '70 Green 'Cuda. The people like it. The kids like it, it's got the big 426 Hemi motor in it. They stand there and they just look at it," said Mark Tracy.
You can see Mark Tracy and his Green 'Cuda at this year's Dancing in the Streets in Downtown Lafayette. NewsChannel 18 will be broadcasting a live show from 6:00 PM -7:00 PM on Saturday.
