LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - 17-year-old Tyler Kingery stopped at the Marathon gas station on Creasy Lane and State Road 38 Thursday morning, picked up a Red Bull, and was heading to class at Lafayette Jefferson High School.
Yet, as he was turning right out of the gas station, the only place his car ended up, was underneath a semi truck.
"The trailer, as it was making a wide turn, the rear tires drove over the driver side portion of the green car," said Lafayette Police Officer Mark Roberts.
Kingery said he doesn't remember much, but the sound the accident made was unforgettable.
"The metal of my car just creaking and glass everywhere breaking," said Kingery.
Roberts said the semi truck driver was not injured, and Kingery only sustained cuts on his hand due to the broken glass. Roberts said it's an accident that could have been much worse.
"The semi trailer did go over top of the car, and if the wheels would have driven over the driver, obviously we would have had a serious crash, if not fatality," said Roberts.
Roberts said because both drivers didn't see each other, there was no one person at fault, and neither received a ticket. Kingery said he has never been in an accident before.
In fact, Kingery said he just bought his car about four weeks ago.
"I just got it recently," said Kingery. "So, me seeing it like this doesn't make me too happy, but at least everyone is ok."
"I think this just shows people, that you have to really pay attention," said Roberts. "You can think one second it's clear, the next second, we have a problem like this."
