LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Now that the craziness of Black Friday is coming to an end, small businesses are gearing up for their big day.

Saturday is Small Business Saturday. The holiday was started by American Express to promote local, small businesses.

Business owners in the area are gearing up, hoping shoppers and customers will come out to support them. Owner of Red Poppy Studios and Gallery Joanna Retherford said she doesn't know what to expect for Saturday. She said this will be her first Small Business Saturday as a business owner.

"I don't know what to expect for traffic but I'm hoping that the mall shoppers will be shopped out and look for a local place to hang out," Retherford said.

Retherford encourages people to get out and shop at small businesses not only in downtown Lafayette, but all over the area as well.  Red Poppy will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The gallery will be open along with the Tea House.
