BUCK CREEK, Ind. (WLFI) - The namesake location of an area pizza restaurant has closed because of declining sales.
After almost a decade of business, the Buck Creek Pizza location in the heart of town served its last pizza on Dec. 29.
Owner Jay Mitchell said he hated to make the decision, but sales had gone down significantly over the past few years. He said he used to sell about 110 pizzas on a Friday or Saturday and around 45 pizzas the rest of the week. But recently, he was selling only about 45 pizzas on the weekend and less than 20 during the week.
"We're sure sorry we had to do this," Mitchell said. "We run eight and a half years here. We (have) just kind of been going downhill slowly and slowly. No real explanation for it, whether it's the economy or the drought or the taxes, or a combination. Buck Creek just hasn't kept up."
Mitchell will continue to operate the Dayton Station location in Dayton, a spot which opened 3 and a half years ago. He said it had kept the Buck Creek location propped up the last couple years.
