LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The Lafayette Fire Department had a brush fire under control quickly on State Road 26 in Lafayette Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters said the fire started just after 12:30 p.m. in front of Carpetland USA at 3437 State Road 26 East.

Crews on the scene said sparks from a nearby utility pole fell into a ditch in front of the business and caught the grass on fire.

The fire took just about 10 minutes to extinguish.

Our NewsChannel 18 crew on the scene said Duke Energy arrived at 1:10 p.m. to check on the utility pole that sparked the fire.

As of 1:15 p.m., three nearby businesses were out of power, including Carpetland USA and Grindstone Charley's.

We'll bring you deeper details on NewsChannel 18 at Five and Six Thursday night.
