Brookston horse wins race

BROOKSTON, Ind. (WLFI) - Yeardley is a three-year-old filly at Elliot Farms in Brookston and she is the first ever winner of the Indiana First Lady Stakes. The race took place last weekend at Indiana Downs in Shelbyville.

It's an exclusive race for Indiana bred fillies. Yeardley's owner Amy Elliot said it was a close race on the home stretch.

"A horse kept coming to her, getting closer and closer. They came right to her and we thought, 'oh no, they're going to catch her at the wire,' but our little filly just kind of dug in, and won the race," said Elliott. "It was a lot of jumping and screaming!"

Yeardley won't return to the Indiana First Lady Stakes next year, because the race is only for three year olds. Her owners said they plan to put her in more races in the future.
