MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) - An area tea party hosted Democratic candidate for the U.S. senate Brad Ellsworth, asking him questions about where he stands on a number of issues.
Ellsworth answer numerous questions and explained why he is making the move from congressman to hopeful U.S. senator to the White County Tea Party Patriots Wednesday night.
"I think the senate needs common sense Hoosiers, cut through all the partisan and the politics. Go up there and work on solving problems. My training in the sheriff's department that I carried into congress for a short time will bode well in the Senate," Ellsworth explained.
The Health Care Reform Bill was the hot topic during the tea party meeting. Ellsworth told the packed room there are good things and bad things about the bill and he isn't 100% happy with it.
"There are going to be tweaks and moves with this as it moves, long after I'm dead and gone. We will still be talking about this. This is not the end all piece of legislation. I'm not talking about moving forward single payer or European style. I'm talking about moves that bring an American health plan that brings down the cost of health care in this country," Ellsworth said.
Ellsworth is running for Evan Bayh's open seat for the U.S. senate.
The White County Tea Party will host Ellsworth's opponent, Republican Dan Coats on Friday, October 15 at REMC in Monticello at 7:00 p.m.
