Many Boiler fans support TerBush suspension

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The announcement came just one hour before the Boilermakers blasted Eastern Kentucky in their season opener on Saturday.

The projected starting quarterback for the game, Caleb TerBush, had been suspended.

Purdue Head Football Coach Danny Hope won't elaborate on the situation, but said TerBush's suspension was due to a violation of team rules.

Just a couple days prior, linebacker Dewayne Beckford was also suspended indefinitely, after being arrested for failure to appear warrants.

"We're going to be a disciplined football team," said Hope. "We had two varsity players that broke team rules, and as a result, they had a one game suspension and that's the way it is."

This isn't the first time the Boilermakers have had issues off the playing field.

In just this year, five Purdue football players have been arrested, and a few of them, more than once.

"We have to be a much more disciplined football team, whether it's on the field or off the field, and that will make a difference in us being champions in 2012," said Hope. "So, I don't have any remorse in my decision, and I think Caleb would concur as well."

Many students on campus also agree with Coach Hope's decision.

Purdue swimmer Evan Barta said he supports the suspension both as a fan and a fellow student athlete.

"It's definitely a good time to be making a point at this point in the season," said Barta. "Obviously, with Notre Dame coming up this weekend on the road, it's going to be a whole different story than it was with Eastern Kentucky."

Barta said he believes his coach would feel the same way.

"If that were to happen to our team, I know just like the football coach, our coach would take action," said Barta.

Coach Hope said TerBush will be eligible to play against the Fighting Irish on Saturday.
