ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) - A fire broke out in Fountain County early Tuesday morning. Attica Fire Chief Ed O'Farrell confirmed there was a body found in the home this afternoon.
The fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday at 601 S. Perry Street in Attica. There were also reports of two explosions at the residence according to Chief O'Farrell, but the cause of those possible explosions is still unknown at this time.
The engulfed structure did collapse. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Chief O'Farrell said the identity of the body cannot be confirmed until an autopsy has been completed.
Chief O'Farrell said there was one man living in the home. The coroner will likely compared the body's DNA to this man's daughter.
The chief did say the man did not have electricity or natural gas and authorities believe he used a grill to cook food.
When firefighters got to the scene, they were unable to get into the home because it was engulfed.
"I mean, that's always a firefighter's worst fear, is having people trapped inside, or having a fatality. So we're not happy about that, but there literally wasn't anything we could do," said O'Farrell.
