LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Janice Starnes is honoring her fallen husband in a way that gives back to people in need, by organizing the annual Sergeant Dan R. Starnes Memorial Blood Drive.
On July 10, 2001, Sergeant Dan R. Starnes of the Morgan County, IN Sheriff’s Dept. lost his life as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during a line of duty gun battle.
Janice decided to expand the blood drive so that it benefits people locally and state-wide, and renamed it, the Indiana Fallen Officer’s Blood Drive.
This month, the 2012 drive begins with donation sites located in nearly every county statewide.
