Benton Central providing backpacks filled with food

BENTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Benton Central is providing a boost to some students in the area that may need some help getting enough food to eat.

Weekly, the Benton Central High School Life Skills class packs and distributes backpacks filled with food to students who may need assistance.

Prairie Crossing Elementary, Boswell Elementary and Benton Central Junior-Senior High School all receive backpacks.

Janice Holihan runs the life skills course at Benton Central that has been providing backpacks for students for more than a year.

"Any student that we think may need some food or some extra food at home, then a teacher or staff member recommends that we send some food home," said Holihan.

"Some of the students come to us and say, 'We would like to have a backpack.' So it benefits many in the community."

The backpack program is funded by Benton Community Foundation and receives food donations from Food Finders Food Bank.
