WAIKIKI, Hawaii (WLFI) - The Harrison High School band is calling its performance at the Arizona Memorial on the Fourth of July a success. The group is in Hawaii to perform at not only the Memorial but also on an Army base.

Band director Steve Cotten said the band was amazing as the students played the 1812 Overture, Grand Old Flag and other patriotic songs at the Memorial.

"It had misted just a few minutes before we played. So, this beautiful rainbow appeared out over the Arizona. Here we are playing all these patriotic music on the Fourth of July. Beautiful sunshine and a rainbow behind us in this great setting," he said. "There were a couple of Pearl Harbor survivors there on the site. One of them came up to us afterwards and was talking to us about having been in band when he was a kid. He had actually played with Artie Shaw in the 1940s. It was really cool to to play for one of these survivors of Pearl Harbor. It was really cool. The kids got to talk to him a little bit."

The band returns to Lafayette Thursday.
