LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Tainted gasoline has reached Greater Lafayette and surrounding areas.
A BP spokesperson told NewsChannel 18 last week, none of the bad gas had reached Lafayette, only northwest Indiana, Chicago, and Wisconsin were affected.
But according to BP's website Wednesday, at least four gas stations in Greater Lafayette reported they were delivered this bad gasoline.
Indiana Attorney General's Chief Economist Tom Bodin said once BP realized tainted gasoline had the potential to reach the Indianapolis market and surrounding areas the company took action.
"There was a part of this gasoline, this off-spec gasoline that got into the Wisconsin and Indianapolis market so it has flown through. All indication show that it was exclusive to premium and mid-grade. We are still working with BP to ensure that that is the fact and they had pulled premium and mid-grad off the market on Friday," Bodin said.
Some of the bad gas was delivered to Monticello, Logansport, Crawfordsville, and Frankfort, as well. Search for your gas station.
According to BP, not all cars that visited the stations would have received the tainted gasoline.
Anyone who visited one of the stations and has a car experiencing hard starting, rough idling, stalling, or other drivability issues, should have the car towed to a repair shop to be checked out and call 1-800-333-3991 or 1-800-599-9040 to make a claim.
