WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Police say a one-car accident involving a utility pole affected traffic flow for West Lafayette drivers Thursday.

According to West Lafayette police dispatchers, one car drove into a utility pole in the area of Salisbury Street and Kingston Drive just before noon.

West Lafayette police officers on the scene told us the driver said he was driving his car and fell asleep at the wheel, waking up with the car rammed into a utility poll.

Neither the driver nor anyone else was injured, but the utility pole was destroyed. Repairs to the pole forced crews to close the road on and off throughout the afternoon. The closure was around the area of Happy Hollow Elementary School.

It took about an hour for crews to arrive with the new pole, and even more time than that to repair the pole.

UPDATE AT 3:45 P.M.: Crews opened the area back up to traffic around 3:45 p.m. Cleanup lasted several hours.
