Attorney general wants crack down on 'do not call' violators

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Almost 15,000 Hoosiers have complained that they have gotten unwanted calls to their phone. That’s more than double last year's complaints.

Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller hopes to figure out a way to fight back against both illegal robo-calls and "do not call" violations.

He's hosting a series of three roundtables around the state with trade experts and lawmakers over the next week.

Zoeller said his office plans to find better ways to trace illegal calls and prosecute violators.

"I'll be the first to admit that we're losing ground, so I'm very sensitive that people expect privacy and now the state has to do more to give them that protection," Zoeller said.

Zoeller plans to present the results from the roundtable discussion to the FTC in October. He also hopes to have something in time for lawmakers to consider during their session next January.
