Attica teachers, Board, back principal who made objectionable posts

ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) - Two dozen teachers and the Attica School Board expressed their support Monday night for the principal who made objectionable posts on his public Twitter account.

Monday marked the first Attica school board meeting since Principal Dusty Goodwin was suspended five days for posting tweets that included calling someone gay and talking about trying to OD his wife.

About two dozen teachers came to the meeting in support of Goodwin.

No one spoke up against him.

Two letters on his behalf were read into the record by Superintendent Derek Marshall. Teacher Kaylie Carnahan was the only person in attendance to speak and appeared to have the support of many gathered in the room when she said, "We just want you to know that we're here to support you."

Later, School Board President Dan DeSutter said he was gratified by their turnout.

"You all by being here tonight and what you've said have spoken more loudly than I could say or write. Thank you," he said.

After the meeting adjourned, Goodwin hugged a number of teachers on their way out the door.

Every teacher approached by News 18, including Carnahan, refused to make a comment.

News 18 also requested an interview with DeSutter. He refused to give any comment about the appropriateness of Goodwin's discipline or whether he thinks the corporation should develop an official social media policy.
