Hotel Attica to be restored with grant money

ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) - The Hotel Attica will soon be restored with $5,000 in grant money.

You may remember back in June, the back wall of the Hotel Attica collapsed. Attica fire officials believe strong winds and rain from a summer storm may have played a factor.

Now, the Lieutenant Governor's office has awarded Attica Downtown Main Street with a $5,000 downtown enhancement grant. The project will help fund a facade and restore the exposed brick of the collapsed wall. It's all part of the Indiana Main Street program which is a division of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

"It's program to help communities revitalize their downtown area. For instance, Attica is one of our Main Street communities, as is Lafayette. We have 108 communities across the state who participate in the program," said Shae Kmicikewycz with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

After the wall is restored, there will be a contest to determine a design for a mural.

The City of Attica will provide a funding match.
