Athletics department excited about CBI ticket sales

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Purdue's Athletics Department is impressed by ticket sales for the men's basketball first round game in the College Basketball Invitational Tournament.

Associate Athletics Director Tom Schott said more than 1,500 fans have their tickets. As of Tuesday afternoon about 1,000 tickets remained.

Because the game is at Mackey Arena, Schott expects most fans to make the last-minute decision to come.

It costs the team about $35,000 to enter the tournament. Schott said he thinks ticket sales will help make up most of that cost.

"We'll see when all the final numbers are crunched," Schott said. "We weren't sure what to expect attendance-wise. I think the fact that we are over 1,500 already is a good sign."

Tickets range from about $5 to $25. The Boilers will take on Western Illinois Wednesday evening.
