TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) - Designing a robot that can throw a Frisbee accurately and climb a ladder is the challenge that about 100 high school kids have taken on as part of a worldwide robotics contest.
Each of the four public high schools in Tippecanoe County has a team.
The contest is organized by FIRST, a non-profit organization that tries to develop kids to be leaders in science and technology.
Harrison Coach Doug Klumpe said it helps the teens develop an engineering attitude.
"This works," he said. "These kids spend 20-26 hours a week after school working on these robots, problem-solving. The amount of problem solving that goes on is phenomenal."
The Regional competition at Purdue is next month and is one of more than 50 regionals worldwide.
