LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A Lafayette company announced an expansion they say will provide 75 new jobs for the the city.

Leaders with aluminum manufacturer Alcoa held a luncheon to discuss the company's place in the global economy and their plans to develop new products.

Alcoa is starting to invest in an alloyed material called aluminum lithium.

This material retains the strength of aluminum with a reduced weight. Alcoa is now building a new $70 million lithium casting facility. The product is used mainly in the aerospace industry.

"Luckily here in Lafayette we're a part of the aerospace business. It's a large market that we serve. It's our No. 1 market. When we look at Boeing and Airbus, the build rates are going up. Most of their programs are increasing.  We have been able to utilize that increase and able to keep things moving," said Alcoa Supply chain Manager Tom Delgatto

Greater Lafayette Commerce sponsored today's event.
